What will happen in the first session?
The very first session that we have is called an intake session. It is typically a face-to-face session. In this session we will discuss any questions or issues from the registration form, and I will get a better understanding of the clients reasons for seeking therapy by asking questions and getting to know the client. From this we will formulate a plan for therapy and collaboratively set therapy goals. These goals will set the basis for the therapeutic process, and will be reviewed at appropriate stages. The intake session will last one hour.

How long are sessions?
Sessions are one hour in duration.

How long will the therapeutic process take?
The duration of the therapeutic process depends on the what the client is seeking therapy for. Therefore it is not possible to give a timeframe to the duration of this as it is unique to the person. Therapy goals are set at the beginning, and these are reviewed at appropriate points to see how the client is progressing, whether the original goals have been met, or are still important, and also to set new goals.

What language will be used in the session?
The sessions are facilitated in English.

Will my insurance reimburse the session fees?
It is the responsibility of the client to find out before engaging in the sessions whether their insurance company will reimburse the session fees. Silver Lining Psychology does not take responsibility for this as insurance companies have different polices and levels of service.

Where will be the sessions take place?
The sessions will take place at either the AntiLoneliness offices in The Hague or Leiden or online.

Do I need a mental health diagnosis to have sessions?
No, this is a personal experience where you can work on issues that may not be related to mental health conditions.

What should I do if I need to cancel a session?
You need to contact Silver Lining Psychology via email at the earliest opportunity if you need to cancel a session. Silver Lining Psychology has the following  cancellation policy:

• Cancellation within 24 hours of the session* -  100% charge of the session fee.
• Cancellation 24+ hours prior the session* -  50% charge of the session fee.
• No charge is placed upon cancelling 48 hours* or more prior the session.
*Only working days

A cancellation fee is not a punishment for something you did wrong or was your fault. Most cancelation cases are because of external circumstances (traffic, sickness, heavy workload), so it's not a case of whether it is something you caused or not. It is our cancellation policy so that we can protect our work. The same cancellation policy that other psychotherapists or doctors have, who are working as self-employed. It may feel unfair for you, but it is fair enough for your therapist who had prepared in order to meet you, who has no time at all to replace this hour with someone else and has no stable salary.

Will I have to ‘work’ outside of the sessions?
There is the expectation that when you engage in sessions, there will be some out of session work, or homework.  This could take different forms such as: self-reflection, or applying a skill discussed in the session. It is important that clients not only make the commitment to the sessions but any out of session work, to help them in the work on their problems or issues.
